The Pharcyde at One Music Fest Atlanta

With Hurricane Irene on its way last week, we weren’t too sure if the Atlanta show was even going to happen. So the days and hours leading up to One Music Fest last weekend were kind of stressful. DJ Ice Water (our usual DJ) lives in New York and his flight got canceled at the eleventh hour.

When we arrived in ATL, the weather was all clear, but we realized our DJ wasn’t going to be there so we had to make emergency moves when we touched down and call for our back-up, Will. Will flew out from LA the same day as the show. We didn’t know if he was going to make it in time — his flight was scheduled to land at 7 and we were supposed to go on at 8. The pressure was on. Before the show, we were doing a lot of interviews. Still no DJ. Finally, the stage man says to us: “Pharcyde, where’s your crew? It’s time to go on!” Still no DJ. I had to stall him for 30 minutes. I kept telling him to go find our road manager because he had all the answers. We heard the announcer getting the crowd ready to see The Pharcyde. Still no DJ. Then, out of nowhere, Will walks through the crowd to backstage area. We just had time to ask him how his flight was. He said it was rough. Then, show time. We were glad he made it safe and sound.

On to the show.

Phife Dawg brings out The Pharcyde

While we were waiting for the show to start, I had a chance to chop it up with Phonte from Foreign Exchange and reconnect with our old friend N’Dea Davenport from Brand New Heavies. Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest blessed us by bringing us out on to the stage. When we got out there, the Atlanta crowd was in full swing. Black love and black culture was in the air. Atlanta always makes you feel at home — there’s always lots of love and major support. It’s good to see our people coming together.

Thanks for the love Atlanta and One Music Fest. We hope to come check you all out again soon.
